It was an interesting Champions league night as Liverpool took a narrow win against Atletico Madrid to solidify their top position in the group and improve their chances of reaching the Champions League knockout stages. The game was really interesting to watch as Liverpool scored in the first minutes of the first half after Mohammed Salah slid past three defenders only to send a shot deflected towards goal. The goal did not last that long before Liverpool was 2-0 ahead in the first ten minutes as Keita met a perfect rebound only to produce an amazing out-foot volley and score a stunning goal.
Atletico Madrid was looking shaky although Diego Simeone had a plan, and it was not long before Atletico Madrid equalized after Griezmann had the faintest of touches to ensure they had a goal back. Atletico Madrid kept on pushing and we’re later awarded another goal by Griezmann after he received a killer pass in the box only to put his name on the scoresheet again. The dramatic first half ended in a 2-2 draw.
The second half was a little more relaxed and it was not a good day for Atletico Madrid as they had to play with ten men as Griezmann was forced to leave the pitch after he received a red card for a bad foul. Mohammed Salah then went on to seal the win for Liverpool after they were awarded a penalty and he made the score 2-3. Liverpool is now at the top of their group with 9 points while Atletico Madrid drops to the third position with 4 points. It was definitely an interesting match and props to Liverpool for taking the win at the Wanda Metropolitano.
