The interior cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi has today issued a 14-day notice to the UNHCR for the closure of Dadaab and Kakuma Refugee camps. Speaking at Limuru today, Matiangi said time has come for the government to make such bitter decition for the sake of internal security.
Matiangi said this while meeting with the National Council of Churches in Kenya’s Committee on Security. Matiangi noted that as much as the state has both international and national obligations that it has to balance.
“There is no room for negotiation. We must strike a balance between Kenya’s international obligation and her domestic duties. We do have a domestic responsibility to protect Kenya,” Matiangi said.
