Getrude Chepkoech, a first-year girl at Laikipia University is stabbed to death by a guy who’s said to be her roommate’s boyfriend. The man who took her life is alleged to be a local Motorbike (Bodaboda) rider. The killer had visited his ‘girlfriend’ (Getrude’s roommate) a week earlier only to be kicked out of the hostels’ section to trespassing issues. Upon visiting his girlfriend, they seemingly quarreled and the girlfriend ended up alarming authorities; claiming that the man was forcing his way through to her.
The man was therefore kicked out by the hostels’ administrators and banned from coming around the premises ever again. A few days later, the man approaches the girlfriend’s room armed with a knife and pounces on Getrude (‘girlfriend’s roommate; and stabs the young girl to death on 29th September.
The man attempts to take his own life after committing the act but the students corner him down and prevent Ezra (the killer) from doing so. The killer was saved by the police amidst being held back and attacked by the neighboring students who speculated to stone him to death. Further investigations are underway to find out why Ezra might have attacked his ‘girlfriend’s roommate’.
The late Getrude’s body was moved from the scene to Nyahururu Referral to await burial as Ezra is judged and takes responsibility for his action. In the meantime, Ezra stays behind bars as investigations are done and the verdict is concluded. We offer our condolences to the family and lovers of the deceased and hope that justice prevails.
