Government spokesperson, Cyrus Oguna, on Saturday revealed that Kenyans shall stop using national IDs and instead use the Huduma number. He said the current national IDs shall be faced off by December and those without Huduma Number shall miss out on services that require Identification.
Huduma number is also known as the National intergrated identification system, seeks to register all Kenyans details under one database for easier management and service delivery. Oguna revealed that 37 Million Kenyans had already been registered under the system and most of them are yet to collect their Huduma cards.
He said that within now and December 31st,Kenyans shall be recieving messages to say their preferred point of collection. He noted that those who do not reply to messages shall be forced to pick their Huduma cards from their registration points.
“By the end of this year we hope that all the 37 million Kenyans will have received their Huduma Namba cards as we phase out the national identification cards,” Oguna said.
There has been set a toll-free number (08800221111) for those who do not have smartphones. For those who did not register in the first phase, they have been advised to take advantage of the second phase set to start from April.
