As you well know, today is World Aids day used to create awareness concerning HIV and the resulting epidemic. Though this year it will be a little different, with the theme being ‘End inequalities. End Aids’

HIV has over the past years affected our nations, with more than 1.4 million Kenyan citizens with the virus and this number increases yearly by 40,000. The good thing is that almost all the Kenyans that have tested positive are on medication . The ministry of health reported that about 20,000 people die of HIV as they are not aware of its presence in their bodies.

Prof Bukusi has been on the lead to ensure that inequalities is stopped in prevention and treatment. Over the past recent years, she has been on the fore front to carry out intense and productive research. This research has led to creation of female HIV prevention initiated methods.

Prof Bukusi is a research chief officer at KEMRI and also a research professor at the University of Washington. She said at a local media outlet that it has been forty years since HIV was discovered and yet there is no drug or vaccine for it, although Covid-19 already has a number of vaccines and it was only discovered 11 months ago. She urges people to give HIV the same effort as the Covid-19 pandemic has.
