As of July 2016, 29.3 million people (54.00% of the total population) were Internet users. This is the highest penetration for all African countries second to Morocco (58.27%), is well above the figure of 19.9% for Africa as a whole, and is comparable with the figure of 39.0% for developing countries worldwide.

Internet access is available throughout the country using a fiber-optic backbone and international access via submarine cables, and terrestrial and satellite links.

There are way over 114,000 broadband subscriptions. 84% of Internet users accessed the Internet at home, 75.8% at work, and 24% use public Internet cafés. Tunisian users on the internet are approximately 66.8% of the country’s total population.

5. Kenya

Kenya comes 5th in Africa and number 78 in internet connection. There were 23.35 million internet users in Kenya in January 2022. Kenya’s internet penetration rate stood at 42.0 percent of the total population at the start of 2022. With an average download speed of 20.97 Mbit/second for fixed-network broadband internet, Senegal ranked 120th in an international comparison. The upload rate of only 8.7 Mbit/second was significantly lower (126th place).

In mobile internet, i.e. on tablets and smartphones, Senegal comes 111st with a download speed of 16.10 Mbit/second. The upload speed of around 10 Mbit was enough for 63rd place.
